Muttnik Training Update

Muttnik's Founder, Rani MacInnes, is currently in the process of completing a one-year intensive dog instructor program with the Animal Behaviour College based in California.

The Animal Behaviour College's Training Program begins by teaching students how to build a proper canine/human relationship. Their philosophy is to creat a relationship built on positive interaction and consistency which can often deter future unwanted behavior problems, facilitate faster learning and even solve some existing behavioral challenges.

For more information please contact Muttnik or review the College's website:

Animal Behaviour College

Rani is an animal lover. Her love and compassion for all animals and in particular dogs has been life-long. Her most recent accomplishment is completing her professional dog training certificate from the Animal Behaviour College in California. It was a great program and has given Rani a very strong foundation in which to continue operating Muttnik at the highest service standard possible in the industry today.

Her ongoing knowledge and training has come through being guardian to a wide variety of animals over the years including her wild and crazy 13-year-old black lab named Kobi who sadly passed away in 2009. Other companions included a high-strung Hungarian Vizsla named Hamish and a spinning-frenzied yellow lab named Tash. Throw in cats, birds, guinea pigs, snakes and spiders as well as many aquatic animals from her stint at the Vancouver Aquarium where she led the marine mammal program for members (feeding the killer whales, playing with the Beluga’s and helping to train the mischievous marmosets) you get a pretty good idea of her animal experience.

Rani holds a Masters degree from Simon Fraser University and has come from a senior communications and interactive career in Vancouver, BC. Wanting to spend more time with her family and the outdoors, Rani took the bold step of leaving her corporate career and creating Muttnik. Her dream is to grow Muttnik across Western Canada and offer the highest quality pet services possible. Part of the vision includes a product line, retail store and franchising in the near future.

Rani’s long range plan for Muttnik is to raise the bar for professional pet services in Canada and to continually strive to offer per owners what they need, desire and deserve when it comes to their canine companion.

Deirdre Haugo

Dog walker, Pet sitter

Deirdre has been an animal lover for as long as she can remember. She has always had cats that she loved more than her boyfriends. It wasn't until her dog Beauty came along that she truly understood the love for a dog.

Beauty, a rescue greyhound that was set to be "terminated" after a career of racing, was a wonderful addition to the family. Being that Beauty joined in the family as an older dog she wasn't around for long, but the couple of years that she was she made a huge impact on Deirdre. It was after Beauty died that Deirdre knew for sure that she was destined to spend her life working with animals.

Deirdre's educational background is in Kinesiology and she is also a personal trainer. When not spending time with her animals or yours, she can find her swimming, biking and running around training for Ironman triathlons. You can always tell her first love is her critters, though. Sometimes it takes her just a little too long to get out the door for a workout if she has a cuddling kitty, or two, with her.

Melanie Duffy

Dog walker, Pet sitter

Melanie has been a friend to both dogs and cats since she was a kid. She has always had a pet, and finds their companionship an essential part of living a great life (not to mention a life filled with love).

As an adult she became very interested in animal welfare and nutrition and spends a lot of her free time volunteering at different animal shelters and with rescue groups around the Lower Mainland. Melanie has passed her love and care of animals down to her son and enjoys taking him along to give out cuddles to the cats and dogs that need it most in the shelters.

She started dog walking 8 years ago and loves spending time outdoors with her canine buddies, and has been certified in Pet First Aid to make sure that everyone stays safe during their outdoor adventures.

Melanie shares her home with her husband, son, two fuzzy rescue cats, a hedgehog, and her English Bulldog, Ollie, who has terrible manners but makes up for it by being completely goofy and lovable.

Elizabeth Boychuk

Pet sitter

Elizabeth is an avid animal lover whose childhood bedroom had a strong resemblance to a pet store and was home to fish, tree frogs, lizards and hamster. She also spent a wonderful 14 years with her family’s Lhasa Apso, “Tristan”.

While a true dog lover at heart, Elizabeth understands the responsibility required to raise one on her own and is waiting for the right time when she’ll be able to provide her future canine companion with the time, space and love they deserve. Until then, she gives her love and attention to her leopard gecko, “Joey”.

Although she doesn’t’ have a dog of her own, Elizabeth takes advantage of any opportunity to interact with dogs, whether she’s dog walking, dog sitting or just spending the day at the dog park. She regularly looks after and visits with her two Chihuahua ‘nephews’ “Rocco” and “Lukey” and  is always the first one to put her hand up anytime friends or family need help with walking or looking after their canine companions.

To contact Elizabeth please email her at info@muttnik.com
